PROGRAMS of ITQAN

PROGRAMS of ITQAN:

  • Classes will be offered at several locations in the DC Metro Area, starting with MAS DC’s community center, Dar Al-Hijrah Islamic Center, and private homes.

  • Each class will be taught by well-vetted individuals, and will be supervised by a board.

  • Class size will be limited to no more than 10 students so as to maintain high quality education.

  • Classes will be taught in either Arabic or English. Homework, quizzes, and exams will be held in the language in which the class will be taught and in which the textbook will be chosen.

  • All classes will have prerequisites, an entry test, and exit exams, and will be supervised by a board that is made of qualified sisters and brothers who hold ijazahs. Certificates will be offered only to individuals who live up to the level of excellence as stated by the board.

  • Workshops will be offered to support the overall mission of Itqan.

Excellence in Reciting the Qur’an

Four levels of tajweed will be offered, each lasting one academic year, followed by a year of preparation for earning a teacher’s certificate or earning an ijazah, which can then take a few months or a few years, depending on the student and teacher’s available time and skill.

Introductory Level:

Nooraniyah method of teaching to read Qur’anic Arabic.
Text Books: Nooraniyah
Content: Recite and memorize the last 10 pages of Juz’ 30 with tafseer.
Pre-requisite: The ability to recognize Arabic letters

Level 1 Tajweed (Honors) Tuhfatul-Atfaal:

Text Book: The Explanation of Tuhfatul-Atfaal for Beginners, by Dr. Jamal Al-Qirsh
Content: An introduction to tajweed rules through studying this easy Arabic poem, with the chance to earn an ijazah in the poem. Topics include Isti’athah and Basmala, foundations of ghunnah, foundations of elongated vowels, letter interactions, stopping to take a breath, and a brief history of the Qur’an.
Recite Juz’ 26-30.
Memorize Juz’ 30 with tafseer.
Pre-requisite: The ability to read, write, and speak in Arabic, and to read Qur’an with no obvious mistakes

Level 2 Tajweed:

Text Books: Tajweed Diagrams, and ….
Content: The connected and disconnected, the feminine Haa, stopping on consonants, advanced study of medd, stopping on vowels, and special cases for Hafs.
Recite Juz’ 21-25.
Memorize Juz’ 29 with tafseer.
Pre-requisite: The successful completion of level 1 of tajweed or equivalent.

Level 3 Tajweed:

Text Books: Hilyah At-Tilawah, by Dr. Rehab Shaqaqi, and Tafseer Muyassar
Content: In-depth study of topics covered in levels 1 and 2: Isti’athah and Basmala, foundations of ghunnah, foundations of elongated vowels, letter interactions, stopping to take a breath, a brief history of the Qur’an, the connected and disconnected, the feminine Haa, stopping on consonants, advanced study of medd, stopping on vowels, and special cases for Hafs.
Recite Juz’ 11-20.
Memorize Juz’ 28 with tafseer.
Pre-requisite: The successful completion of levels 1 and 2 of tajweed or equivalent.

Teacher Preparation Level:

Text Book: Hilyah At-Tilawah, by Dr. Rehab Shaqaqi, and Al-Jazariyah with commentary by Dr. Ayman Suweid
Memorize and understanding Al-Jazariyah.
Arabic Grammar as needed for Waqf and Ibtidaa’.
Recite the entire Qur’an.
Attend teacher training workshops.

Ijazah Preparation Program:

Text Book: Hilyah At-Tilawah, by Dr. Rehab Shaqaqi, and Al-Jazariyah with commentary by Dr. Ayman Suweid.
Memorize and understanding Al-Jazariyah.
Arabic Grammar as needed for Waqf and Ibtidaa’.
Recite the entire Qur’an.
Review the entire Qur’an.

Ijazah in Hafs:

Students who successfully completed the Ijazah Prep Program will be paired with a teacher holding an Ijazah. It will be up to them to complete this level in a timely manner.

Excellence in Memorizing the Qur’an

  1. Tahfeeth classes will be offered at several paces:

    1. Slow and Steady: 3 Juz’s per year.

    2. Moderate: 6 Juz’s per year.

    3. Fast: 10 Juz’s per year

    4. Review: 15 Juz’s per year

Excellence in Memorizing the Qur’an

The following classes that support the studying of the Qur’an will be offered periodically:

  • An introduction to the sciences of the Qur’an

  • The writing of the masahif

  • Manners and biographies of Qur’anic scholars

  • Arabic grammar

  • Studying traditional tajweed books that include, but are not limited to الرعاية  – التحديد – الموضح

Excellence in Memorizing the Qur’an

  These classes will have a holistic approach, and will focus on a small segment of the Qur’an, not to exceed ten pages per academic year, where the ayat will be fully understood, grammatically analyzed, recited with excellence, memorized with care, while applying and learning the basic tajweed rules related to the ayaat, and studying the sciences of the Qur’an that are tied to the ayat, such as why they were revealed, how they were scribed, the variations in recitation and numbering of verses, as well as stories of scholars related to the ayaat.

  • Level 1: The study of Al-fatiha and the last 12 pages of Juz’ 30

  • Level 2: The study of first 11 pages of Juz’ 30

  • Level 3: The study of the last 10 pages of Juz’ 29

  • Level 4: The study of the first 10 pages of Juz’ 29

Excellence in Teaching Qira’aat

Ten Qira’aat:

  • Stage 1: The Study of Ash-Shatibyah (3 years)

  • Stage 2: The Study of Ad-Durrah (2 years)

  • Stage 3: Practicing reaching fluency in all ten Qir’aat (1 year)

  • Stage 4: Earning an ijazah in one of more Qira’aah (the required time will vary)

A Single Qira’ah:

  • Stage 1: Studying the basics with practice(1 year)

  • Stage 2: Earning an ijazah (the required time will vary)

General Education in Qira’aat:

  • Hold weekly or monthly recitation sessions where a page or more is recited over and over until all qira’aat in the page are achieved

  • Hold an annual competition in memorizing certain surahs in qira’aat.
